The Black Horse Ranch & Retreat

This Ain't No Ordinary Retreat

The Black Horse Ranch & Retreat is devoted to building dreams and a place to escape the everyday.

Perched on 35 mountainous acres within Northwest BC's beautiful Bulkley Valley, the Ranch is home to a growing flock of purebred Suffolk Sheep, horses, cats, dogs, organic garlic fields, flower gardens and an really cool system of pastures and nature trails.

Future plans include developing modern eco-cabins, "Glamping" sites, a multi-purpose studio, a greenhouse, a Saddle Shop and more paddocks for horse lovers and small groups to rent at reasonable rates.

Owners Naomi and Carmen Nyuli each bring their own unique skills to the Ranch including professional Yoga, Team Building, Farrier and Leatherwork services.

It's our aim to offer authentic experiences where guests can unplug, recharge, interact with the animals and explore the rugged, raw beauty of the property and surrounding area.

Country hospitality for you and your horse.  Our ranch features large paddocks with plenty of grazing for your ponies.  Take a leisurely afternoon trail ride right from our backyard or haul your horses just down the road for a pack trip into Babine Mountains Provincial Park

We will send you on trails that were once used by pioneers, explorers and First Nations where you'll encounter an abundance of wildlife and birds! Follow game trails, cross rivers, crest mountains and cruise valleys with wildflowers, meadows, timber and big game honey holes.  Grab your cowboy hat and get set for an amazing adventure!

Action + Relaxation=Total Renewal

We plan to offer an array of workshops, classes and outdoor activities with experienced guides and instructors.

Hiking:  From leisurely walks along our property trails to hiking in Babine Provincial Park, the hiking options are endless.

Photography and Wildlife Viewing:  Get up close and personal with the wildlife. Travel as a wildlife photographer within a small group and capture furry and feathered friends on your still and video cameras.

Indigenous Plants and Wildlife:  Learn about the flora and fauna native to our region as well as the preservation and conservation of natural resources and wildlife.

Horsemanship:  Learn the basics of the skill in handling and riding horses.  From anatomy to saddling, our program incorporates clear steps and training methods for our laid-back style of Western trail riding.

Packing:  Work with packhorses and get hands-on experience with the riggin’.  Get to know the art of packing with little trail secrets along the way .. such as how best to pack a dozen eggs, trailing 6 hours with our string and not breaking one!  Learn how to throw a diamond knot and a variety of other hitches and knots to tie that load down and we’re on our way.

Yoga:  Relax, strengthen and renew with a Yoga class.  Imagine practicing on top of the world with a bird’s eye view of a lush valley or in a meadow alongside a trickling creek – our style is versatile and provides guests with the unique opportunity to connect with the peace, tranquility and beauty of the area.

Bonfires, Music & Storytelling:  You’ve never experienced a bonfire quite like a Northern burn!  Stacked high, this ignition is not only exciting, warm and fun but also a burning of the hard work and energy that goes into creating the fire.  Guitar music, singing and storytelling are also known to break out after the show gets going.  Who knows you may even meet Sam McGee!

COSTS will vary and depend on group size and requirements.
