Yoga, Hiking and Landscape Painting
One Day Retreat
Picture a positive energetic day of creativity, movement, inspiration, passion, joy and gratitude with YOU at the centre excited to get your creative juices flowing.
Join Smithers-based Artist, Caitlin Ambery and Yoga Cowgirl, Naomi Nyuli for this one day retreat where you'll have the opportunity to express yourself creatively, physically and mindfully through landscape painting, yoga, meditation and hiking.
In the yoga workshop, you'll shine the light on yourself to relieve tension and stress, be creative and playful with the postures and increase your mind-body awareness.
Following a fresh and delicious lunch sourced as locally as possible, you'll take a short guided hike with your new friends to a beautiful spot in Driftwood to soak in the subject matter of your painting. Taking time to sit quietly, you'll focus your attention on being present and aware of the moment.
Feeling supercharged to create your masterpiece, you'll head back to the hall for the painting workshop where hors d'oeuvres and non-alcoholic drinks will be served. You may even decide to bring your own wine or beer to enjoy while painting.
Caitlin's Artist Statement:
“When the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art”
- Leonardo Da Vinci
Painting is a means by which I enter into a deeper relationship with God, which nourishes as well as reveals a source of creative expression from within. Movement, light and colour reveal my passion for sharing the profound beauty and sacredness of life, with its complexity, mystery and hidden truths. The addition of people into my images encourages a sense of pilgrimage: the human journey of seeking, searching and hungering for deeper relationships with creation, creator and each other.
Layer upon layer my paintings emerge. Often my images will become quite dark, upon which I then wash sections of paint away in order to reveal portions of light within the initial layers. As Leonard Cohen said “There is a crack in everything, that is how the light gets in”.
My desire for my art is that it may represent light entering creation, that luminosity within creation be seen with new eyes, and to reveal God’s spirit fully within and throughout all of existence.
“Creativity is the power to connect the seemingly unconnected”
Caitlin Ambery was born in rural northern B.C., grew up in Victoria and currently resides in Smithers B.C. Caitlin works predominantly in large acrylics but initially started her artistic endeavours with watercolours. As a result she treats her acrylics much like watercolours with many thin layers building upon each other. She enjoys the process of applying and removing layers of paint to reveal subtle nuances of color and light. This process creates a luminous quality to her work.
Caitlin’s intuitive images express movement and rhythm within and throughout nature and place. She often incorporates people into her artwork, as a way of exploring her views on the importance of what it is to be a human being, participating in relationship with creation and creator.
Caitlin has a BA in Psychology from the University of Victoria. As she continues to paint, she also hopes to assist others in their creative painting pursuits. She loves to see people come alive through art, and loves how creative expression can be a source of healing, transformation, inspiration and connection.
